Founding Partners

Momentum Design Lab was founded in 2002 by David Thomson as a consultancy and in 2005, Joe Preston came on-board. Since then it has grown into a successful full-service user interface design firm that has worked with some of the biggest names and most promising startups across a range of industries.

David Thomson
Chief Creative Officer & Managing Partner David has been designing since 1997 for large-scale enterprises. His career path has taken him through the development of both enterprise-scale websites and enterprise-class software design. The majority of David's application design has been in the banking, entertainment, e-commerce/procurement, and supply chain industries. His keen eye for detail and design sensibility underlies an innate business sense and the ability to conceptualize complex, multi-dimensional information. His work in UI and IA for applications and high-traffic sites include, but are not limited to the following companies:

Joe Preston
Senior User Experience Architect & Managing Partner Joe has been designing since 1997 across a variety of industries. He has worked for small-scale web design firms, as well as in-house for large-scale website platforms. Joe's attention to detail and his ability to translate complex processes into understandable terms has resulted in improved user interfaces and satisfying user experiences in clients' projects. Before coming to Momentum, he worked for SMS.ac and Warner Brothers Music, and since joining MDL, his work in UI and IA includes but is not limited to the following projects:
