Openwave (2007)

Openwave Systems Inc. is the leading independent provider of software solutions for the mobile and media industries. When Openwave contacted us they were in the process of creating a prototype for what they termed “Mobile Widgets.” Mobile Widgets is an extensible platform that enables externally developed widgets to be integrated directly into any mobile device running the Openwave system. The project involved revising the current interface of the prototype, adding a few new widgets, and creating 3 new themes. With our mobile design background, this project was a fun challenge.

After exploring the current prototype and SDK, we realized many areas in the interface and visual design that needed improvement. Initial comps of three themes were presented, with different navigational metaphors and visual aesthetics. After a series of iterations, we translated the final frameworks designs into the subsequent component screens for each of the selected themes. We worked closely with the Openwave development team to deliver the project with a quick turnaround and on budget. Shortly thereafter, the Openwave team informed us that the Mobile Widgets were very well received at the 3GSM mobile conference.
