Wal-Mart (2005)
Wal-mart is one of the world’s most recognizable brands “super” stores. Although we specialize in user-interface design, the Wal-mart projects were opportunities to flex our advertising muscles. Many of the designers on our team are multi-disciplined and come from traditional graphic design and advertising backgrounds, so these projects were a nice change of pace.
We started each project by working closely with the creative department at Walmart.com to design storyboards that not only reinforced the Wal-mart brand, but were in-line with the other campaign collateral. Once the storyboards were finalized we moved onto flash animation. Many of the banners included sub-banners, or “pointrolls,” that appeared on mouse roll-over. These involved some extra-planning, and working directly with the Pointroll system to implement. Once most of the major IAS banner dimensions were covered, we translated them into other dimensions. In the end, we worked on 5 concurrent banner campaigns for Wal-mart, over the course a year, and increased their click thru rate by 50%, when compared to their past campaigns.
